I found my way to Marienplatz where I met up with Yvonne and Andrea. While I was interested in the history of Munich, I also wanted to learn about its people and culture. And that in my opinion is what makes the Global Greeter experience different than an organized tour. Yes we walked around old Munich, listened to the glockenspiel and talked about the rich history of the area; but I learned much more than that. We had lunch at Hofbräuhaus where I was introduced to the manager and learned about Stammtisch, a wonderful tradition carried on by the locals even today. As we listened to the Oompah band and sorted out the menu, Yvonne and Andrea explained how Germany differs from other countries, as well as how the German people and lifestyles differ from region to region. As we walked through the shopping district and beer garden, I learned many interesting details about Munich and its citizens. Our afternoon culminated with a stop in a very tiny chocolate shop for some "not to be missed" hot chocolate and a conversation with the proprietor. From beer to hot chocolate, from history to ordinary conversation about day to day life; this was a view of Munich from an insider's perspective. Yvonne was prepared to tailor the day to my personal interests and energy, but I was happy to simply let the afternoon unfold. Thanks Yvonne and Andrea.

Der Greet mit Andy war das Highlight unseres München- Aufenthaltes. Superkompetent und freundlich zeigte er uns die oßen wie auch die kleinen Höhepunkte der charmanten Stadt, sodass sogar unser Jüngster begeistert und konzentriert bei der Sache blieb. Vielen Dank

Hier in München mag ich diese ganzen Holzschnitzelfigur Läden, die ihre Produkte handgefertigt haben und sie zum Verkauf zur Verfügung stellen. Wäre ich Tourist in München, würde ich nicht zwangsweise in die teuren Kaufhäuser gehen, um Souvenirs zu kaufen, sondern wirklich auf offenen Marktständen mich auf die Suche begeben. Ich selber bin großer Fan vom Kaffee und die jeweiligen Kaffeekulturen kann man in den verschiedenen Ländern sehr gut sehen. In Vietnam werden die kleinen Blechtöpfe mit Löchern genutzt, in Belgien benutzen die Leute Geräte, die wie Experimentiermaschinen aus dem Labor aussehen, deutsche Geräte für den Kaffee wie hier bei Bosch zeigen Ihre Power durch Ihre Leistung und es ist schade, dass im Hinblick auf den Kaffee wenige Shops vorhanden sind, die speziell darauf ausgerichtet sind.

Many thanks to out greeter Ramona! We were a group of 4 and she walked with us through the Au/Haidhausen districts on an evening after work. The walk was very insightful and interesting. She told us about the history of the eastern bank of the city, showed the old buildings including the former orphanage, jail, beer garden where Hitler was agitating for the Nazi marching, and the French Quarter with the lovely cafes and houses. Overall, the area is very different from what central and more 'touristy' areas have to offer. I could not find any offers on this area from the other tour companies, so I am very glad we had an exclusive stroll with Ramona. We had some cultural exchange, stopped for a flea market, and at the end Ramona was very kind to walk us to the tram stop and help to reach a restaurant we had our dinner in. An experience and atmosphere I will remember!

Die Bar im Bayrischen Hotel gefällt mir sehr gut. Da waren wir zuletzt im Winter oben auf der Terasse und hatten einen wunderbaren Blick auf die Innenstadt von München gehabt – sehr empfehlenswert, auch wenn das Glas Wasser mit 5 Euro schon ein wenig überteuert war. Von den anderen Locations ist mit mir das Café Vorhölzer noch relativ unbekannt, was sich demnächst aber ändern wird. Wisst ihr, wo ich eine wunderbare Tasse Kaffee getrunken habe? Bei Scout auf der Medienbrücke, wo auch eine Bar vorhanden ist. Wir besitzen zwar mit unseren Siemens Kaffeevollautomaten eine hochwertige Maschine für den Wachmacherdienst im Büro. Aber die Aussicht von so einer Brücke auf die Stadt mit einer Tasse in der Hand ist eine andere Dimension.

Update: Der Preis von 9,99 € stimmt nicht mehr. Bei Online-Buchhändlern findet man das Exemplar nur noch für 12,99 €.

Ganz beliebt ist der Apple Store, wo die Leute teilweise davor sitzen, um ins Internet zu gehen. Ich bevorzuge lieber ein gemütliches Cafe.
