Snacks 24/7 – late night convenience stores in Munich

Some say that you do not have to copy everything from Berlin, others complain about the lack of supply with sandwiches, cigarettes or beer after 8 p.m. We are talking about the so-called “Spätis” (short for 24/7-convenience store)– kiosks or small shops where you can buy everything you might need in the wee hours of the night or on Sunday mornings: beer, rolls, coffee, cigarettes, newspapers …

This kind of store exists already since a couple of years in other large cities, but has been introduced in Munich only lately. The most famous of these late night convenience stores is the kiosk at the Reichenbach bridge. With 2200 articles, it is almost like a small supermarket: here you can find nearly everything from fresh bread over beer to frozen pizza.

Since last summer, the city boasts a second “Späti” – which is right on the bus and tram station “Münchner Freiheit”, in the “Deubl Glass Cube” (Münchner Freiheit 7, Monday through Sunday until 3 of 4 clock clock in the morning). Besides coffee, beer and rolls, you find home-made empanadas, hot dogs and of course magazines and cigarettes.
