Touring through Munich while carrying around your 20-pound-luggage? Impossible! Luckily, there are many places in Munich where you can leave your belongings during the day before leaving Munich by the evening train or towards the airport.
If you have to check out in the morning, but will be strolling through the city until the evening, you can of course try to leave your luggage at the hotel. Most hotels have a luggage room where you can drop off your things and pick them up again in the evening. But this can be quite troublesome when the hotel is situated far away from the city center and getting your luggage and going back to the station will cost you an hour or more. Maybe it is better to deposit your bags and suitcases at the train station.
Lockers at the station strong>
In Munich, Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and Ostbahnhof both offer lockers in various sizes. If you have really big luggage or skis, it is best to go to the Central Station. There you will find lockers in three sizes, so you can also unload bulky items. A small locker costs 3 Euros, a large 5 and a ski locker also 5 Euros per day. For bulky luggage you can contact the luggage storage. But beware: They are only open only till 8 p.m. during the week and till 6 p.m. on weekends. At Ostbahnhof, there are large and small lockers for also 3 respectively 5 Euros per 24 hours. At the train station in Pasing, there are some more lockers. They are slightly cheaper than in the city center and cost 2 or 4 Euros per day.

You can leave your luggage for free at the department store “Kaufhof” at Marienplatz or in the Kunsthalle of the Hypo Cultural Foundation (Theatinerstr. 8). All you need is a 1 Euro coin as a key deposit which you get back again when you open the locker. Kaufhof is popular with the people of Munich as a storage space. The few lockers are all taken quickly. Thus on Saturdays you need a bit of luck to get a locker after 10 /10.30 a.m. Even the small lockers in the Kunsthalle are rare (and not officially intended as a luggage storage). Thick travel bags or large backpacks therefore won’t fit into the lockers.
Lockers in the Pinakotheken strong>
Those, who want to enjoy some art before leaving Munich, can carry their luggage to the picture galleries “Pinakotheken”. In the basement of the Pinakothek der Moderne, there are many boxes, where you can leave a medium sized backpack or travel bag. If your luggage does not fit, you can go to the Neue Pinakothek. It is just a few steps away from the Pinakothek der Moderne and the lockers are a little bigger. Nice for your holiday budget: The deposit is 1 or 2 Euros that you get back at the end.
